Joby Carter is a traditional signwriter, decorative artist and teacher who champions traditional skills in a digital age.
 
He grew up on his family's travelling vintage funfair which he then toured until 2022. His apprenticeship in signwriting continued a lineage of traditional signwriting skills and expertise going back to the 19th century, and he still uses these techniques today. There are no modern shortcuts with masking tape, vinyl or computer-printed layouts in his workshop!
 
For over 30 years Joby has restored vintage funfair rides to their full decorative order using authentic heritage skills.
 
He has taught thousands of people about signwriting and fairground art through his workshops, online courses, social media videos and his first book, Signwriting: Tips, Tricks and Inspiration.
